If you’re desperate to upgrade your phone, the iPhone 13 looks rather tempting. Scratch that. No, it looks incredible. Of course, there will always be some downsides, like the fact that it still requires a Lightning cable over a portless design to go along with MagSafe accessories. But on the whole, the iPhone 13 is a pretty stellar device. Here is a breakdown of some of the fantastic iPhone 13 design choices and features you will find. Plus, a sneak peek of the leaked iPhone 14 design to tease you a little.

Your Color Choices

The iPhone 13 has a wide range of color choices, some of which are similar to the iPhone 12. However, there are a few more notable, unique hues. Here’s the lineup you will find:

iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini:

  • Starlight (white and silver)
  • Midnight (black)
  • Blue
  • Pink
  • Red

iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max:

  • Silver
  • Graphite
  • Gold
  • Sierra Blue

The most notable of these color choices is Pink and Sierra Blue. Love the light Sierra Blue and want to showcase it? Choose a clear-faced iPhone 13 case or iPhone 13 Pro Case with a colored ridge for an accent. Or, if you prefer one of the more neutral colors, give it some personality with an iPhone 13 Pro Max case that features a vibrant color, such as Stormy Blue, Sage Green or Lavender, or even a case with one of our nature-inspired prints.

Sizes, Thickness and Weight

The iPhone 13 sizes are the same as the iPhone 12. The only real difference here is that the latest iPhone 13 models seem to be a bit thicker. In addition, they also come with a heavier weight (likely due to the larger battery). So what can you expect?  Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • iPhone 13 | 6.1-inch
  • iPhone 13 Mini | 5.4-inch
  • iPhone 13 Pro | 6.1-inch
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max | 6.7-inch

The iPhone 12 was 7.4 millimeters thick and weighed in at 5.78 ounces. However, the iPhone 13 design features a slightly wider 7.65mm with a 6.14-ounce weight. It’s so slight that you won’t even notice, but still, a phone case is a wise choice in case you go fumbling.

A Longer-Lasting Battery

The weight of the iPhone 13 is due to the larger battery, so we think that’s a fair swap. The battery life is also longer due to several new design choices: the iOS15 system and the A15 Bionic chip. Also, even though the iPhone 13 design has a new 120Hz display (more on that soon), it also has Smart Data Mode, which auto-shifts to LTE when 5G (or your streaming videos) is not needed.

According to rigorous testing from Tomsguide, the battery life on each of the iPhone models is as follows:

  • iPhone 13 | 10.5 hours
  • iPhone 13 Mini | 8.25 hours
  • iPhone 13 Pro | 11.5 hours
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max | 12.25 hours

120Hz Display

Both iPhone 13 Pro models feature a 120Hz display. This means that the iPhone Pro models offer a fast and smooth screen as you scroll around websites, play games and more. The iPhone 12 nixed this idea, mainly due to the significant drain on battery life when paired with 5G. However, Apple has made leaps and bounds of an improvement when it comes to 5G capabilities, now offered in over 60 countries and regions.

Redesigned Camera Module and Smaller Notch

The latest iPhone 13 design also features a redesigned camera module and a smaller notch display across the screen for the selfie camera. There was some speculation that Apple teased a notchless iPhone 13, but that has been disproven. (However, leaked info on the iPhone 14 suggests it could be coming!)

Apple states that their iPhone 13 offers a 20 percent smaller notch, which is at least something and smaller than their predecessors. In addition, the camera offers a lot of extras under the hood. With features like ProRes recording and Cinematic Video, it’s a content creator's dream phone. Cinematic Mode is a video version of Portrait Mode, shifting focus on objects to make a more dramatic image.

Protect Your New Phone with an iPhone 13 Pro Case

Patient Enough for the iPhone 14?

With recent leaks of next year’s iPhone 14 design, many are left questioning whether they should make the jump to the iPhone 13. If you’ve waited so long for a new phone, what’s one more year, right?

So, if you don’t follow all the up-to-date tech news or leaks in this case, we’ll spill the beans here, too. Here are the primary design changes you can expect from the iPhone 14:

  • Thicker chassis: The reason for this is to accommodate the iPhone 14’s flush rear cameras. But it’s assumed it’s also to fit a larger battery.
  • Flush rear cameras: Resists cracks, etc.
  • Titanium design: The iPhone Pro models will have a super-durable titanium design, as in stronger than the regular iPhone’s aluminum and iPhone Pro version’s steel. But we’re betting there will be a price hike for this feature.
  • Notchless screen: The iPhone 14 gets rid of the notch. Instead, there’s a small punch hole camera under the display.
  • New colors: Yep, new colors, of course. Rumors are that there’s a new gold finish and photos seem to indicate a dark green.
  • Satellite communications: Great in emergencies when normal phone signal is not available.

So there you have it. What we know so far about the iPhone 14. The bigger question: Is it worth the wait or will you pull the trigger on an iPhone 13 today? Whatever you choose, Pela Case has you covered.
